What Hone is
One real coding question a day, and a challenge you solve in the browser. The coach gives hints, never answers. Your progress is recorded only from things you actually did.
Who it is for
Anyone who wants to know, honestly, what they understand. Beginners get a full explanation before each challenge. People who ship with AI help get to find out which fundamentals are theirs. People interviewing can go well past one question a day.
What it can prove
When you are ready to apply, Hone can show what you did to someone who has never heard of it. A public proof page, off by default and yours to turn on, lists the topics you turned around and locked in, the interview problems you solved without a hint, and your readiness band. Résumé lines are built from the same counts, and a counted job-ready checklist says what is left. Nothing on any of them is self-reported.
The certificate, and what it means
Reach a fixed bar on a track and Hone issues a certificate: the same bar for everyone, made of
readiness in the top band, topics held under spaced recall, and problems solved without a hint. It
carries a credential id in the form HONE-PY-0000-0000, and anybody holding that id can
check it at honecoding.com/certificate without an account, a sign-in or a
word to us. The same certificate is also issued as an Open Badges 3.0 credential, which is a W3C
Verifiable Credential signed with our key: change one character of it and the signature stops
matching, on anybody's machine.
You choose the name printed on a certificate, separately from your public handle, and that name is frozen on the day it is issued. Later edits to your profile do not follow it, so a certificate always says what it said. If your name genuinely changes you can ask for a reissue; it gets a new credential id and records the one it replaces, and the old id goes on working and says it was superseded. Corrections are limited to one a month and three a year, and previous names are never stored.
What it does not claim. Hone is not an accredited body. There is no proctored exam and no check of government identification, so a Hone certificate attests to counted work done on an account, not to the identity of the person who did it. That sentence is printed on the certificate itself. We would rather issue a narrow claim that holds than a wide one that does not.
Lessons to read
Every lesson on Hone is also a page anyone can read: the idea in plain words, what it is for, how to think about it, a worked example that runs, and the trap. No account is needed to read one; practising it is one tap away.
How much it costs
Hone is free while it is in beta. If that ever changes, you will be told before anything is charged.
Who made it
Hone is built and run by one person. Questions, bugs, ideas: hello@honecoding.com.
